ROUND THE ISLAND SWIM COACHING
ROUND THE ISLAND SWIM COACHING
SPRING SWIMMING WITH RTISC
I am running open water skills training sessions at 6.30pm on Thursday nights at Lochore Meadows. These sessions are ideal for triathletes and open-water swimmers who are preparing for organised events in the summer. The sessions will include practising for mass starts, buoy turns, sighting and drafting.
I am already running open water swim sessions on Sunday mornings for all abilities, whether you want a big swim 'round the island (or further) or you want to build your confidence swimming close to the shore. Time vary depending on who is swimming so get in touch for times and details. Group swims are generally £15 per person.
1-1 open-water sessions are available too and can be organised at a time to suit you.
Group pool coaching sessions have restarted at Lochgelly High School.
There are places available in May should you want to join these to work on your technique.
For more info on all my sessions just scroll down, past the bit about me.
Oh, this is a bit of chat about me.
Hello. I'm James. I'm an outdoor swim coach based in Fife, Scotland.
I run open-water coaching sessions at Lochore Meadows and Silversands beach at Aberdour all year round (mostly).
I started swimming outside at the start of loch down, and have never looked back. I swim outside throughout the year in a wetsuit and skins, and I have participated in competitive swimming as part of Aquabike events.
I am a qualified, open water swim coach with open water swim safety qualifications (both from STA). I also coach club swimmers at Dunfermline Amateur Swimming Club.
If you are an experienced open-water swimmer getting ready for the summer, a newbie who is not sure where to start, or you swim regularly but get out of breath and tired easily or you just want to swim faster, then I can help.
Have a look below at the sessions I offer and then send me an email on james@roundtheislandswimcoaching.co.uk. Thanks.
Outdoor Swim Coaching in Fife
My sessions take place at Lochore Meadows and Silver Sands Beach in Aberdour in Fife, Scotland. With open water and pool coaching qualifications and four years of my own experiences, my goal is to help you make the most of your wild swimming or if you are new to it, introduce you safely and comfortably.
The sessions I offer are explained below. Send me an email to find out more or if you have any questions.
Group Swims
Sunday mornings
This is very much a social event for folk who want to keep up their outdoor swimming throughout the winter. There are two sessions:
9am group will be swimming Round the Island or similar distance. Swimmers should be used to the cold water and swimming 1500m front crawl in no more than 45 minutes.
10am group will be swimming between jetty and beach (ideal for breaststrokers and front crawlers getting used to the cold water and building distance). This may change depending on the mix of swimmers.
I will be in the yellow kayak providing safety cover and to spur you on. £15pp.
Wetsuits compulsory.

Personal Coaching
Time to suit you.
I can provide tailored 1-1 swim coaching to meet your needs, whether that's in the pool or outdoors.
If you want an introduction to cold water swimming, regular cold immersion dips, or improving your swimming technique, I can help.
The water is refreshingly cold at this time of year and swimming in it can be a challenge. But it is also very rewarding and can be extremely beneficial for your mental and physical health.
Individual Session - £45
Block of 4 Sessions - £160

Swim Event Training
Thursday nights
These sessions will give you confidence as you head toward your next swimming event.
I will give you advice on the equipment you will need for the day, familiarising yourself with the swim course and tips for relaxing before the swim to make it more enjoyable.
You will practice swimming close to other people, turning around buoy markers, mass starts and sighting.
I have taken part in swim events around the UK and can share my experiences with you.
Cost - £15 per session
Send me an email if you're interested
Pool Sessions
Tuesdays + Fridays
I run weekly coaching sessions on Tuesday and Friday evenings at Lochgelly High School Pool. Group sessions last an hour and you will be grouped in a lane of 4 swimmers of similar ability to you. Sessions will focus on improving technique to help with your open-water swimming, helping you to develop endurance and speed in the water.
The group sessions are available in blocks of 4 consecutive weekly sessions throughout the winter.
The cost is £52 for a block of 4 one hour group sessions (ad hoc sessions are £15 each).
I also have 1-1 sessions available but these vary in price according to the duration - email me to find out more.
Send me an email if you're keen or interested.
Swim Experience
Trossachs
Join me for a fabulous day out in the Trossachs to swim at the beautiful Loch Chon.
Treat yourself to swimming in one of the best outdoor swims in Scotland.
I'll be alongside you in the yellow kayak for safety and to carry all the kit. I will bring some wood so we can have a fire to help us warm up and maybe toast some marshmallows.
Bring some lunch, a hot drink and some warm layers to put on afterwards.
Cost - £95
Send me an email to book.
Gift Vouchers
For all events
My new gift vouchers are now available and they make brilliant presents whatever the occasion.
They are available at a cost to suit your purse and they can go towards the cost of open water or pool coaching sessions. Just check out my different sessions above.
This is a birthday voucher but I can adapt them for mother's day, anniversaries, father's day, wedding days, bar mitzvahs or any other event.

One of the more challenging routes at Lochore Meadows is the swim from the beach, around Tod Island and back, and is known as going 'Round the Island'. The far side of the island, away from the noise of the playgrounds and car park, is tranquil and lovely.
The swim itself is 1500m equivalent to 60 lengths of most indoor pools and represents 30-45 minutes of swimming. This page is a shrine to the people who have swum 'Round the Island' with me
